This week finds us in España. New client? No. Rest and relaxation? Heck, yeah! Katie and I are taking a trip to celebrate her graduation from college. It's our little gift to ourselves to rejuvenate mind, body and spirit. In my humble opinion, travel is the only gift that truly give back to you. So this post is going to be a little light on graphic design content and a bit heavy on me taking my own advice.

As designers we tend to sit at our desk sketching, writing, brainstorming and generally coming up with ways to get you to buy the next thing you don't really need. Don't get me wrong – I love what I do. Creating something that started as an idea in your head is very rewarding. But, every once in a while we need to unplug and experience the world around us. Sure, I can learn a lot about Spain from the Internet. Go to Wikipedia and you'll find that Spain has a population of roughly 47 million people and a GDP of $1.3 trillion. Okay. But what is it like? Can you describe the people? Can you tell me about the culture, the art and the architecture? What do they wear? What was the experience, the sounds, the smells and the flavors? You can't learn that very well from looking at a flat screen.

So, this is me unplugging for a little while to breathe in a place I've never been before. I plan on having answers to all my own questions when we return and – hopefully – I'll be a better designer and (more importantly) a better person because of the whole experience.

Hasta luego mis amigos.
